Editorial Assessment:Â $0.02/word
Or how I like to call it: the Brainstorming Edit.

If your manuscript isn't quite ready for a developmental edit, but you still want some feedback to see if you're on the right track, then this is the service for you.

We will review whatever you have on hand for your manuscript and write a 3-5 page analysis letter, detailing what's working and what needs to be improved upon. This letter focuses more on the broad strokes of your work, including your main characters, plot, theme, and the basic arc and story structure of your current manuscript.

No Trackchanges are made in this type of service.

A free one-hour phone call can be scheduled after the conclusion of the project [appointment slots subject to availability; offer expires after two months].
Developmental Edit:Â $0.03/word
This is a substantive edit, perfect for those who have finished at least the first draft of their manuscript, but are looking for feedback on the big picture issues of their work.

This edit is meant to help you refine your ideas, better shape your story structure, narrative, or plot, and fix any major plot or character inconsistencies that might be found throughout your work.

For this service, we offer a 5-7 page analysis letter and Trackchanges comments and suggestions made throughout your manuscript. This does not include copy edits or line edits.

A free one-hour phone call can be scheduled after the conclusion of the project [appointment slots subject to availability; offer expires after two months].
Line Edits/Copy Edits: $0.04/word
This is the most intensive type of edit, and it is a step above developmental editing. This service is ideal for individuals getting prepared to submit for representation, contests, or publication.
This type of edit focuses on the big picture issues and also provides line edits. Line editing reviews every sentence of your manuscript for clarity and consistency. Additionally, it reviews and suggests corrections for word usage, spelling, grammar, capitalization, repetition, flow, point of view, tense, and descriptive inconsistencies.

For this type of edit, we offer a 7-15 page analysis letter, Trackchanges comments, edits, and suggestions made throughout your manuscript, and a free one-hour phone call after the conclusion of the project [appointment slots subject to availability; offer expires after two months].
Proofreading: $0.02/word
This type of service provides what you might expect: review and correction of basic spelling, grammar, inconsistencies in style, layout, typography, confusing and/or awkward page or word breaks, incorrect captioning on illustrations, and page numbers in the contents.
This is the very last stage of editing before publication! It does not review any big picture ideas or include line edits.

All edits are made via Trackchanges. We also include a 2-3 page analysis letter and a free one-hour phone call after the conclusion of the project [appointment slots subject to availability; offer expires after two months].
Query Letter Review: $0.06/word
Almost every literary agent out there requires a one-page query letter to be considered for representation. But how do you condense an entire manuscript down to one page without sounding like a robot? It's not easy, but we're here to help.

This service includes a complete review and edit of your query letter, as well as feedback on your revised letter. We focus on your hook, content, flow, and delivery from the eye of an experienced editor. All edits, comments, and suggestions are made using Trackchanges, so you can choose to accept the edits you like.
With this edit, you may be one step closer to securing the literary agent of your dreams.
Synopsis Critique: $0.06
The only thing worse than a query letter is a synopsis. Why? Because depending on an agent's requirements they can be short as one page or as long as a thesis, and they always require you cover a wide range of topics found throughout your manuscript.

Synopses tend to have a nasty habit of coming off too bland or robotic to a reader. With this service, we'll review and edit your entire synopsis to make sure that doesn't happen.

Comments and suggestions will also be made using Trackchanges to make sure your work is appearing at its best.
A free one-hour phone call can be scheduled after the conclusion of the project (appointment slots subject to availability; offer expires after two months).

Private Consultations: $50/hr
Depending on the current state of your project, a private phone call may better suit your needs.
You decide how we use the time. I can answer questions about your project or career path, help with brainstorming, or go over more nitty-gritty writing techniques and current publishing practices.

Appointment slots are subject to availability and are booked on a first come, first served basis.

How Our Process Works
SBM Literary processes all booking requests on a first come, first served basis. I require a 50% non-refundable payment up front to lock-in your scheduled start date. The remaining 50% balance is paid upon completion of the project, before I send you the final product. Clients are required to sign a contract, detailing the specifics of the project for their protection and ours. I also offer non-disclosure agreements for those who are interested.

Once I receive the signed contract and the first 50% payment, the client must send the following before the project's scheduled start date:

1. The entire project [manuscript, query, poem, etc.] [required].
2. A style sheet detailing any unusual words or spellings in the project [ex. invented words].
3. Any additional files that may prove useful during the edit [ex. maps, summaries, etc].

All documents that require editing must be in Word [.doc or .docx] format and follow current industry standards [typically: double spaced, 12 pt, Times New Roman font, and 1" margins]. I provide a guide upon booking to help you set this up.

Any projects received after their scheduled start date are subject to daily late fees.

For more information on my actual editing process, the scheduling of phone calls, late fees, and more, please review our FAQ page or send us an email.
